On June 1st CMS issued a memo titled “Payment Year 2014 Risk Adjustment Attestation.” This memo reaffirms the plan requirement to complete an annual attestation of risk adjustment data. The attestation is for payment year 2014, so plans will be attesting to the accuracy of the data submitted with a 2013 date of service, which made up payment year 2014. The attestation is due by Tuesday June 30th and is signed electronically in the HPMS system. Before signing this attestation steps must be taken to ensure the accuracy and completeness of all risk adjustment data submitted to CMS in calendar year 2013.
This memo reinforces the need to monitor risk adjustment data on a monthly basis to ensure overall accuracy and completeness. Reviewing data on a monthly basis will help ensure that risk adjustment data is accurate and complete at any given time and will show a plan commitment to CMS compliance expectations.
